Cascais is a municipality in the Lisbon District of Portugal, located on the Portuguese Riviera. The population in 2011 was 206,479, in an area of 97.40 km2. Cascais is a major, international tourist destination in Portugal, known for the luxury hotels, resorts, beaches, and casino, which characterize the Portuguese Riviera. Famed for having been the home of numerous royal families and famous personalities, Cascais is of the wealthiest municipalities in both Portugal and the Iberian Peninsula, and is known for the numerous notable events hosted in Sintra, such as the America's Cup and the Horasis Global Meeting.
