Cachticky Hrad is a Must See when Visiting Slovakia

A very historical feature in Slovakia, the Cachticky Hrad castle is an architectural wonder, as well as a great place of interest for tourists and visitors. This structure from the 13th century underwent many changes. It originally began as a U or horseshoe shaped castle residence.

In the mid 1500's, it became a prison for a well known countess who is believed to have taken the lives of many girls. It underwent many changes to the original structure and became much larger at the same time.

Because the castle is situated on a hill like many others, there are many interesting features for visitors to see along the way up. The hillside on which the site rests is known for some very rare foliage that is not found in other parts of the world.

The trip might be worth the effort just for the plant life surrounding the castle.

The historical aspect of the castle itself is intriguing to many visitors. Whether interested in how the structure was built, the various rooms and layout that remain, or the tales of the brutality of Elizabeth Bathory, many visitors will find the trip to the castle well worth the time it takes to reach the structure and tour the entire area.

If you are planning to add this site to your trip to Slovakia, allow several hours for traveling and walking. There are many photos available online, that show what the castle looks like today. However, most are aerial shots that cannot do the site justice. You must see it in person to understand how massive the site is. The place is encased in stone walls, with a main tower and several smaller turrets. Castles are a favorite tourist attraction for people visiting various parts of Europe. This one is no exception. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes with good support, if this site is on your list to see.
