Laguna De Alchichica, Mexico

Related: laguna (8), alchichica, way to mexico, san salvador (25), laguna alchichica, its great

La Laguna de Alchichica is not really a lagoon but a bottomless lake situated in the middle of an old crater of an inactive volcano. The waters are calmed in the lake and was the home of the Alchichica fish, now extinct. Many famous divers have visited this lake, one of them being Jacques Cousteau.

The lake is located a few hours outside Mexico City going towards the direction of Veracruz and Puebla. It is not that hard to reach the lake since there are main roads that can lead tourists to this amazing location. If tourists choose to reach Alchichica from Veracruz the trip will take anywhere from 2-4 hours depending on the means of transportation.

Tourists could ride a bus, personal car, or the most adventurous travelers could reach this location on a motorcycle. The route can start in Orizaba, Veracruz then continue on to Ciudad Serdan in Puebla. This trip from Orizaba to Puebla can take up to 2 hours. And then people can ride the bus that heads towards Perote in Veracruz.

Ask the driver to let you off when you reach Alchichica.

The Alchichica Lagoon is located on the side of the main road that leads to San Salvador El Seco in the Mexican State of Puebla. It is on the way to Xalapa and Perote in Veracruz. The lagoon is part of a cluster of lagoons in the area.

Tourists who love to dive can hire a local diving team. People who are professional divers can take their own equipment to dive the bottomless lakes. People can also venture to the town of Alchichica and buy local ornaments and taste the local cuisine. It is a good idea to have someone who speaks Spanish in the group.

Laguna de Alchichica is one of the most amazing natural surroundings Mexico has to offer. Tourist will love the weather and the food.
